GENERAL GOAL #1
We will help every student acquire a
deeper understanding of himself and his own worth.

  • Self-understanding should increase as the student matures. He should become increasingly aware of his strengths and weaknesses, his values and interests and aspirations, so that the decisions he makes about his future will be informed, reasonable, and rational. He should be helped to know the strengths in himself that he must learn to live with.
  • Regardless of the level and pattern of his particular talents, the school experience should be such that it will strengthen, not damage, his self-esteem. The school should be operated in such a way that students at all levels of talents can achieve a growing awareness of their worth as persons in a society that strives to have an equality of concern for all its members.

GENERAL GOAL #2
We will provide a climate in which every student has the opportunity and encouragement to be creative and to be aware of the accomplishments of others

  • Creativity will provide a climate in which every student has the opportunity and encouragement to be creative and to be aware of the accomplishments of others.

GENERAL GOAL #3
We will help every student acquire good physical skills and health habits and an understanding of the conditions necessary for the maintenance of total physical and emotional well-being.

  • In his interest as well as in the interest of society, a student should be physically fit and know how to control his body movements efficiently. He should know how to maintain the conditions of good physical and mental health and know what practices harmful to health should be avoided.

GENERAL GOAL #4
We will help every student enjoy learning.

  • The school experience should be such that the student finds the learning activities associated with it enjoyable and rewarding to the point that he is motivated to do well and to continue learning on his initiative beyond the requirements of formal education. The attitude of the teacher, the atmosphere of the school, and its physical condition should contribute toward the end that the individual would hold education high among his values.

GENERAL GOAL #5
We will help every student acquire an understanding of his own and other social, cultural, and ethnic groups.

  • The school experience should be such that the student will learn to respect and achieve and easy interaction with people of his own group and those who differ from him in physical characteristics, in cultural traditions, economic status, religious beliefs, value systems, manner of speech, and degree of intellectual competence.

GENERAL GOAL #6
We will help every student understand the rights and attitudes of responsible citizenship and utilize these privileges in our American democratic society.

  • Responsible citizenship means an understanding of the institutions of a free democratic society, and a recognition of historical perspective in bringing rational criticism to bear on their defects and in working for changes leading to their improvement.

GENERAL GOAL #7
We will help every student develop the ability to select relevant information, reason logically, and make decisions based on evidence that he has evaluated.

  • The entire democratic society depends upon citizens' ability to reason logically wherever judgments must be made. It is therefore the responsibility of every teacher to guide the student into situations requiring inquiry.

GENERAL GOAL #8
We will help every student acquire to the fullest extent his mastery of communication and numerical skills.

  • Communication skills include reading, writing, listening, speaking, and nonverbal expressions: numerical skills include mathematical operations. Each teacher should assist the student in the learning, performance, and application of these basic skills.

GENERAL GOAL #9
We will help every student prepare for a productive life.

  • In a world of rapid change the student should be aware of opportunities, and seek out the particular kind of education best suited to his talents and interest. Each student will be provided through vocational training and/or work experience the skills that enable him to pursue a career upon completion of high school education. Each student must be prepared to initiate and pursue activities appropriate to the leisure time which future careers will provide.

GENERAL GOAL #10
We will help every student acquire an understanding of his natural environment and a concern for the problems affecting its quality.

  • The student should have opportunities to develop an awareness of his natural environment. With the rapid increase in human population and technological developments, the student must realize that his environment is in jeopardy and its quality is a vital consideration in the survival of mankind.

GENERAL GOAL #11
We will help every student develop an awareness of and the ability to cope with and participate in a changing world and its problems.

a. Develop ability to adjust to the changing demands of society

b. Develop understanding of the past, identify with the present, and the ability to meet the future
