This is to confirm the plan to install a display case recognizing Hal
Reniff and his career at Chaffey High and the New York Yankees from 1953
to 1967 on Tuesday 28 March 2006 from 11:30AM to 1:30PM .
The plan is a luncheon for participants and guests from 11:30 to
12:30 in the activities room in south hall. (Study Hall for us in the
1950's). For those interested Chaffey High has a varsity baseball game
that afternoon starting at 3:15 PM at Chaffey (50 years after the 1956
CIF champs)
Highlights:
The New York Yankees have offered to send Al Downing, the Hall of
Fame former Yankee pitcher who was a teammate with Hal on some of the
Yankee teams from 1961-1967.
Thanks to Coach Clyde Francisco, and the new principal at Chaffey,
Tim Ward, enthusiastically supports the plan to recognize Hal with a
display case similar to the current Anthony Munoz display in North Hall.
Charlie Reno and I met with Tom Mitchell, Assistant Principal, on
Tuesday. Tom is also an enthusiastic supporter. He said Tim Ward and he
are very interested in focusing on the rich history of Chaffey High
school. the Reniff display will be part of their update of all the
trophies cases in North Hall.
Pat Dooley has designed the case and will coordinate the place with
Tom Mitchell ( another very helpful and enthusiastic supporter of the
display.)
Carol Reniff, Hal's sister, also supports the display.
Patty and Jim Culpepper hosted a wonderful dinner party for the some
local TBF'ers Wednesday night. Attendees included Bales, Bares, Joe
Dicarlo and Joanne Filipi, Dooleys, Guideras, Betty Gladson (Patty C's
sister), Hendon, Johnson's, LeBeaus, McGuires, Russels, Renos,
Shackellfords, Shinn, and Patty T. We discussed the plan and agreed to
recruit as many of the interested folks that we can find.
Of course we all hope our coaches can make it...Hal played baseball
for Coach Ken Proctor, and basketball for Coach Bob Spencer, while Coach
Clyde Francisco was an assistant in those days.
Joe Dicarlo volunteered to coordinate the luncheon prior to the
unveiling event.
Don Warner...please forward to the TBF distribution since I may have
missed some addresses.
Comments, questions, and concerns are welcome.
