| The Moving Wall, a portable replica of the Vietnam
Veterans Memorial dedicated in 1982, will be coming to the City of Ontario,
October 23-29. The
Moving Wall - and the 58,213 men and women it honors - will
receive a moving and meaningful tribute from the City of Ontario and the
numerous service groups, organizations and local businesses instrumental
in bringing the memorial to the city. Fourteen names that appear on the
Wall are the sons of Ontario families Historic Chaffey High School located on tree-lined
Euclid Avenue,
will
serve as the serene and solemn setting for the 252-foot-long display. Regionally
renowned Gardiner Spring Auditorium. Also on the Chaffey campus, will host
the opening ceremony and program for the memorial on Saturday. October 23. Docents volunteers and easy-to-use computers will be ready to assist
the public in locating the names of fallen veterans who served in the Vietnam
War. The Wall will be accessible for viewing 24 hours a day. A full slate
of activities and events will be announced closer to the opening of the
memorial.
Altogether, more than 2.7 million men and women served in the Vietnam
War from 1959 to 1975. Of the 58,213 names on the memorial, approximately
1,300 are listed as unaccounted for - as either prisoners of war (POWs)
or missing in action (MIAs).

Eventually,
the touring memorial will come to rest at a permanent site in Washington
D C.
"For
many, this will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see and experience
this deeply moving memorial," says Ontario City Manager Greg Devereaux.
"Every name on the wall has a son or daughter behind it. Their service
and supreme sacrifice for their country will not be forgotten."
