| The Los Angeles Children's Chorus will perform for thousands of elementary
school children May 21-22 at Chaffey High School's Gardiner Spring
Auditorium.
The concert is being organized by the Community Concert Association of Pomona
Valley. The event is made possible with the help of the Price Foundation, the
BankAmerica Foundation, the Ontario Parkway Kiwanis and individuals.
In five performances, the chorus will sing at public and private schools.
Additionally, there will be lessons given on what composers try to convey in
their music and on how choral literature and folk music reflects their
culture.
About 88,000 school children have participated in the annual spring concerts,
according to Suzanna Capparelli, chairman of the Children's Concert Committee.
The programs are free.
The Los Angeles Children's Chorus, founded in 1986, draws its 180 members,
ages 9-16, from all over Southern California. Director Anne Chesher Tomlinson is
assisted by Diana Landis.
The chorus has performed with the Los Angeles Opera Company, and are
currently appearing in "Magic Flute." Last fall, they performed in
"La Boheme" and "Fedora." They have also appeared in "Pagliacci"
with Placido Domingo, "Tosca," "Midsummer Night's Dream" and
other operas. Several chorus members have appeared as principal artists in L.A.
Opera productions.
Often singing with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Chorus performed in
December as part of their "Symphonies for Youth" series at the Dorothy
Chandler Pavilion.
