| Former Chaffey High School alumnus Anthony Munoz, a USC and Cincinnati
Bengals athlete, was honored recently at ceremonies renaming Colony Park as
Anthony Munoz Hall of Fame Park.
The day began early with the retirement of Anthony's high school football
jersey at a ceremony at Chaffey High School. Later in the morning, Colony Park
was rededicated and renamed.
At noontime, Anthony regaled an audience of community leaders, including
Mayor Gus Skropos, Mayor Pro Tem Alan Wapner and councilmen Jim Bowman, Gary
Ovitt and Jerry DuBois with memories of growing up in Ontario, where Gary had
coached Anthony at Chaffey High School.
Anthony, a resident of Ontario, will be inducted in two weeks into the
Professional Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio, along with Paul Krause,
Dwight Stephenson, Mike Singletary and Tommy McDonald.
What makes Anthony special is his commitment to faith, family and community.
He wears a bracelet with the initials WWJD as a reminder to ask himself,
"What would Jesus do?"
When Sue and Gary Ovitt first conceived the idea of honoring Anthony, it was
because a friend of Sue's from Cincinnati teased them, saying Anthony may have
been born in Ontario, but "He is ours now."
As a role model for the kids of Ontario, Anthony Munoz is a tremendous
success story. There are other kids who cab go forth and achieve wonderful
goals. Congratulations… |
