The Chaffey High School Tigers were forced abandon their game plan early Friday night, but managed a 19-6 victory over the Colton Yellowjackets.

The Tigers lost Marshall Turner, their starting quarterback, just prior to the start of the game.

"Marshall slipped and sprained his ankle in pregame warm-ups," said Bart Goldstein, head coach of the Tigers.

Chris Jones of Chaffey avoids  Colton defensive back Chris Sanchez in Friday's nonleauge  game. Goldstein had spent the practice week throwing the ball and wasn't able to follow that plan when Turner went down, he said.

Chris Jones, the Tigers' running back, managed to pick up the offensive slack by rushing for 180 yards and two touchdowns.

The Tigers' first touchdown came following a fumble recovery by Albert Romero with three minutes left in the first quarter.

Jones managed to capitalize on the turnover by scoring from the 2.

With less than two minutes to go in the half, Jones scored his second touchdown from the 6 by breaking two tackles.

Colton managed to pick up only two first downs in the first half as the Chaffey defense overpowered the smaller Yellowjackets.

"Their guys were tremendously big, said Dick Shelko, head coach for Colton. "And their defense does crazy things."

Colton's only score came when Robert Huckleby caught a 24-yard pass from Brian Pope that set up a 1-yard scoring run by Cody Sorensen.

In the fourth quarter, it was a defensive struggle between the two teams.

Colton managed to stop the Tigers on a fourth and 1 play from the 10.

The Tigers responded with an interception by Mitchell Hall with 57 seconds remaining.

On the Tigers next play, Mono Suliafu fumbled and the Yellowjackets recovered at the 40 giving them one last shot at the win.

It wasn't meant to be though as Pierre Johnson intercepted a Colton pass and scampered 70 yards for a touchdown.
