MONTCLAIR -- Chris Jones ran the ball 23 times for 138 yards and three touchdowns as Chaffey rolled past Ontario 42-8 at Montclairin a Mt. Baldy League game.

The Tigers got a break midway through the first quarter to set up their first score, when the snap to Ontario punter Jeff Smith sailed over his head. By the time he was able to pick up the ball, he was thrown for a 28-yard loss, giving Chaffey the ball on the Jaguar 22.

Three plays later, Jones ran in from 9 yards out for the touchdown. Joe Amenta's kick made the score 7-0 Chaffey (4-2-1 overall, 1-1 in league.

"We had a few breaks really early tonight," Chaffey coach Bart Goldstein said. "The bad snap on the punt sort of turned things around."

Things didn't get any better for the Jaguars (0-7, 0-2) on their next drive. The first two plays on the drive resulted in a loss of 8 yards. On third and 18, quarterback Richard Willemstein was under pressure and threw the ball up, and it was intercepted by Marshall Turner at the Ontario 27. Turner took the ball back untouched for a 14-0 lead.

After an Ontario fumble on its next drive, Jones did the work. Starting at the Jaguar 43, Jones ran the ball five straight times, the final time from the 2-yard line, making the score 21-0 at the end of the first quarter.

Chaffey's defense shut down the Ontario offense in the first half, limiting the Jaguars to 83 yards offense. The passing game had troubles getting started also, as Willemstein was 3 for 18 for 48 yards and the interception.

Meanwhile, Jones and backfield mate Mitchell Hall combined for 196 yards rushing in the first half on 23 carries. Hall opened the scoring in the second quarter, moving around the left side and breaking a tackle for a 31-yard score, to make it 28-0.

The Tiger defense kept the pressure on Willemstein on the next drive. On third and 12, Willemstein was hit just as he set to throw, losing the ball. Willie Garcia fell on the ball for Chaffey at the Ontario 13.

Two plays later, quarterback Jared Goldstein threw to Pierre Johnson in the end zone for a 14-yard scoring play.

Jones closed the scoring for Chaffey on its next possession. He gained 30 yards on a third and 1 from the Ontario 41, getting a first down at the 11. On the next play, he broke to the left and into the end zone for the score, making it 42-0 at the half.

"I told the kids we had things to work on, but we didn't want to do anything to hurt the Ontario kids," Goldstein said. "They're a good group of kids."

Ontario, which was celebrating its homecoming Friday, scored with 1:12 remaining in the game, when Willemstein threw to Jeff Smith in the near corner of the end zone for the touchdown. Willemstein found Armando Perez for the 2-point conversion.
