Dame Shirley - 11:30 am, San Bernardino Public Library, 555 W. 6th
St., San Bernardino; and 3:30 pm, Corona Public Library, 650 South Main St.,
Corona.
Wednesday, May 5 (Cinco de Mayo) - 7:30 p.m.: "After the Days of Cows,
Fiestas and Honorable Caballeros: Forging the Californio Legacy," a free
lecture by scholar/ author Douglas Monroy at Chaffey Communities Cultural
Center, 525 W. 18th St., Upland. (The event will be preceded by a
reception and book-signing with Douglas Monroy, 6 to 7 p.m.; there is a $10
charge for the reception only, payable at the door.)
Saturday, May 15 - 1-5 pm, Museum of History and Art, Ontario, 225 South
Euclid Ave.: Distant Treasures, Golden Legacies, Native American and Early
California stories, music and traditions, a free family event co-sponsored by
the Arts Council for San Bernardino, featuring: Karen Rae Kraut, Storyteller;
Barbara Drake, Gabrieleno/Tongva culture bearer; and, music of the period by Los
Californios and Chicken Charlie's California Minstrels.
Thursday, May 20 - Free History Alive! Chautauqua Performances in the
community: Antonio Garra - 7p.m., Banning Civic Venter, 99 E. Ramsey St.,
Banning.
Biddy Mason - 7 p.m., San Bernardino Public Library, 555 W. 6th
St., San Bernardino.
