NESC Mammoth Trip
September 25, 26, 27, 1999

Saturday, 9/25:
· 6:30 AM: Meet at Fifth Street Parking Lot. Load vehicles. Daypacks separate.
· 7:00 AM: Depart.
Stop 1: Kramer Junction. 
Stop 2: Fossil Falls.
Stop 3: Lone Pine Visitor Center. Lunch.
Stop 4: 1872 Lone Pine Fault Scarp.
Bishop for fuel.
· ~6:00 PM: Pine Glen Group Camp.
Set up camp. Eat dinner.
8:00 PM: Group Meeting. Everyone must attend.

Sunday, 9/26:
7:00 AM: Breakfast. Pack daypacks. Include journal, pencil, water, lunch, jacket, swimsuit, hat, and sunglasses.
8:00 AM: Depart.
Stop 1: Minaret Vista.
Stop 2: Horseshoe Lake tree die off.
Stop 3: InyCraters.
Stop 4: Obsidion Dome.
Stop 5: Devil's Punchbowl.
Stop 6: June Lake, Oh! Ridge for lunch.
Stop 7: Panum Crater.
5:30 PM: Arrive Camp.
8:00 PM: Group Meeting. Everyone must attend.

Monday, 9/27:
7:00 AM: Breakfast.
8:00 AM: Pack up and CLEAN camp. Daypack: the usual and swimsuit and towel.
8:00 AM: All gear at the vehicles. Load vehicles.
8:30 AM: Depart.
Stop 1: Devil's Postpile and Rainbow Falls.
Stop 2: Hot Creek. Ahhhhh!
Stop 3: Bishop for food and fuel.
Stop 4: Kramer Junction. Call parents and give arrival time.
~10:00 PM: Arrive Chaffey. This is an approximate time. We will call 2 hours prior tarrival.

Gear List: 
Clothing for warm and cold weather, camping and cooking gear (see NESC Gear list).  Please pack efficiently. Pack all gear in duffel bags or backpacks. Pack food in  Sturdy boxes with lids secured. The campground has water and toilets. Do not bring: Illegal substances, radios or tape players. Headphones may be used in Camp or cars but are not allowed during the day.

_____ Journal - bound with hard cover.
_______ Pencils/pens.
_______ Tent - good quality with rain flies and stakes.
_______ Sleeping Bag -Warmth range to 10 degrees F. Fiber fill is best.
_______ Pad - Closed cell. Ensolite or Thermarest. NO foam pads.
_______ Ground Cloth - Canvas or thick plastic.
_______ Duffel Bag - All gear should be packed in duffel bag.
_______ Day Pack - Keep with you. Contains journal, pencil, water, 
             lunch, rain gear, jacket.
_______ Rain Gear - Water proof with hood.
_______ Pants and shorts.
_______ Shirts - T-shirts and long sleeved. One should be warm 
                  (sweatshirt).
_______ Jacket
_______ Socks - Wool is best.
_______ Underwear - 1 set of long handles. Wool (squirm) or fleece.
_______ Shoes - Sturdy tennis or lightweight boots.
_______ Hat or visor - A stocking cap/beanie for cold weather.
_______ Gloves or mittens.
_______ Water bottle - Plastic, minimum 1 liter capacity, sturdy 
                 and sealable.
_______ Flashlight.
_______ Sunglasses.
_______ Food - Packed in sturdy boxes. No bags.
_______ Cooking and eating utensils.
_______ Stove and ice chest - Please 1 per food group. Space is limited.
_______ Toiletries.
_______ Camera and Binoculars - Optional. 

PLEASE BE PREPARED FOR A BLIZZARD OR RAIN OR HOT SUNNY WEATHER. There is no way to accurately predict the weather so please by prepared.

PLEASE PACK EFFICIENTLY. We have limited space for luggage. Do not use bungee cords, use straps. Roll sleeping bags tightly and securely. Organize in to food groups and share an ice chest and stove. Bring food that is easy to prepare.

CAMPING GUIDELINES:
YOU are responsible for your trash. We will all recycle aluminum and plastic. Smash aluminum cans and put them in a separate container. Place plastic in a separate container. NEVER throw anything on the ground. Do not leave leftover food anywhere. When you are finished eating, clean up. Leftover food must be removed from container and placed in trash. Use a minimum of water in cleaning your dishes. Do not wash dishes at water faucet. Do not turn on water and let it run.

FIRES: We will not collect wood at the campsite. If you want a fire you much bring wood or purchase it. Whoever lights the fire is responsible for putting the fire out. You must pour water on the fire and stir it until you can place your hand in the ashes.
You must camp in designated areas only.
You must always be present at evening meetings. Roll will be taken at 9:00 PM. If you are ill and cannot be present you must inform Ted Reeves.

QUIET TIME: In National Parks Quiet Time is 9:00 PM. This means you must talk in a whisper, or better yet, GET TO SLEEP. You will have other campers close by and you must not disturb them.

GET TO SLEEP: We will have full days and you are expected tbe mentally alert and prepared at all times.
