NESC Santa Cruz Island Trip
May 25 to May 28, 2001

Friday, May 25:

¨      4:30AM:  Meet at 5th Street Lot.

¨      5:00AM:  Depart.

¨      7:00AM:  Arrive Island Packers, Ventura Harbor.  Pack boat.

¨      8:00AM:  Depart on boat for Santa Cruz Island.

¨      10:00AM:  Arrive Santa Cruz Island.  Set up camp.  1/2 mile walk to campground.

¨      11:00: Lunch.

¨      Noon - 4:00PM: Walk to Potato Harbor.  Geology, biotic communities.

¨      Kayaking 

¨      4:00PM - 8:00PM: Free time.  Dinner.

¨      8:00PM:  Group Meeting.

¨      9:00PM:  Quiet in camp.

Saturday, May 26:

¨      7:00AM:  Breakfast.

¨      9:00AM:  Scorpion Canyon Walk

¨      Kayaking

¨      1:00:  Return to Camp.  Lunch.  Free time:  Snorkeling, Swimming, Kayaking.

¨      6:00PM:  Dinner.

¨      8:00PM:  Group Campfire.

¨      9:00PM:  Quiet in camp.

Sunday, May 27:

¨      7:00AM:  Breakfast.

¨      8:00AM: Walk to Prisoner’s Cove. 

¨      12:00 noon: Lunch. Free Time.

¨      6:00PM:  Dinner.

¨      9:00 PM: Quiet in Camp.

Monday, May 28:

¨      7:00 AM:  Breakfast.

¨      Kayaking

¨      9:00 AM:  Pack up and haul gear to beach.

¨      ~10:00 AM:  Load boat and depart.

¨      ~1:00 PM:  Arrive Ventura Harbor.

¨      Unload boat, pack cars, head home.

¨      Approximate arrival time:  4-5 PM.  We will call 2 hours before arrival.

¨      Journal, pencils, frame backpack/duffel bag, tent, sleeping bag, ground cloth, drinking water, water bottle, food (4 lunches, 3 dinners, 3 breakfasts), toiletries, flashlight, binocs, camera, clothes for warm and cool weather, rain gear, swim suit, wet suit, towel, frisbee, hacky, snorkeling gear. 

¨      It is essential that you pack everything in a secure, compact manner.  No loose items.  We unload car and haul gear to boat, load boat, unload boat, load skiff, land skiff on beach, unload skiff, haul gear ½ mile to camp.  That is a lot of gear handling!!  Pack efficiently!

¨      Wheeled carts are available.

Do not bring:

¨      Items weighing more than 45 lbs.

¨      Including ice chests and water containers.  Water containers must be 2 ½ or 3 gallon capacity.

¨      Glass containers.

¨      Loose gear.

¨      Items packed in plastic bags.

¨      Bungee cords.

¨      Unnecessary items.  Remember, we must haul all gear ½ mile to the campground.

¨      Alcohol, tobacco or any other illegal substance.

Payment:

Ø      Cost of trip is $87.00.

Ø      Money must be turned in by April 23.

Ø      No refunds after May 5.
