NESC/APES MAMMOTH TRIP
September 29 to October 1, 2001

Saturday, 9/29:

¨      6:30 AM: Meet at Fifth Street Parking Lot.  Load vehicles.  Daypacks separate.

¨      7:00 AM: Depart.

¨                  Stop 1: Kramer Junction.

¨                  Stop 2: Fossil Falls.

¨                  Stop 3: Lone Pine Visitor Center.  Lunch.

¨                  Stop 4: 1872 Lone Pine Fault Scarp.

¨                  Stop 5: Bishop for fuel.

¨      ~6:00 PM: Devil’s Postpile Camp. 

                              Set up camp.  Eat dinner.

¨      8:00 PM: Group Meeting.  Everyone must attend.

Sunday, 9/31:

¨      7:00 AM: Breakfast.  Pack daypacks.  Include journal, pencil, water, lunch, jacket, 

                  swim suit, hat, sunglasses.

¨      8:00 AM: Depart.

¨                  Stop 1: Minaret Vista.

¨                  Stop 2: Horseshoe Lake tree die off.

¨                  Stop 3: Inyo Craters.

¨                  Stop 4: Obsidian Dome.

¨                  Stop 5: Devil’s Punchbowl.

¨                  Stop 6: June Lake, Oh! Ridge for lunch.  

¨                  Stop 7: Panum Crater.

¨                  Stop 8:  Mono Lake Visitor Center

¨      5:30 PM: Arrive Camp.

¨      8:00 PM: Group Meeting.  Everyone must attend.

Monday, 10/1:

¨      7:00 AM: Breakfast.

¨      7:30 AM: Pack up and CLEAN camp.  Daypack: the usual and swimsuit and towel.

¨      8:00 AM: All gear at the vehicles.  Load vehicles.

¨      8:30 AM: Depart.

¨                  Stop 1: Devil’s Postpile and Rainbow Falls.

¨                  Stop 2: Hot Creek.  Ahhhhh!

¨                  Stop 3: Bishop for food and fuel.

¨                  Stop 4: Kramer Junction.  Call parents and give arrival time.

¨      ~9:00 PM: Arrive Chaffey.  This is an approximate time.  We will call 2 hours 

prior to arrival. 

Gear List: Clothing for warm and cold weather, camping and cooking gear (see NESC Gear list).

Please pack efficiently.  Pack all gear in duffel bags or back packs. Pack food in sturdy boxes             with lids secured.  The campground has water and  toilets.

Do not bring: Illegal substances, radios or tape players.  Headphones may be used in camp or cars but are not allowed during the day.
