"Would You Like a Side Order of College
with That?
by Brianna Diaz, Staff Writer Remember those days when people took the time
to ask you, "What do you want to be when you grow up?" How many times
did you hear that? Most of you probably answered, "I wanna be a doctor or
maybe a fire fighter." What happened to that dream?
In case some of you haven't noticed already, you've started high school,
which means you only have four years to decide what you want to be when you
graduate, not what you want to be when you grow up.
Some of you are still thinking, "What do I want to be when I grow
up?" and are forgetting that time flies. Soon enough high school will be
over. What if you don't think about your future? What a huge sacrifice of four
years and possibly another four years in college to not follow your dream.
Wouldn't you prefer to spend an extra four years in college and later earn up to
thirty dollars an hour, rather than working twenty years at Burger King as the
store manager, earning only six dollars an hour? Would you rather be an employee
or the owner?
High school is just one of the many steps leading to your main target in
life. High school is when people no longer ask you, "What do you want to be
when you grow up?" but instead ask you, "What do you plan on doing
after you graduate?" In most cases it's a choice between a full time job at
Mickey D's or college. Working at McDonald's is okay to pay for college, but as
a life-long career? Better think about it.
High school is an essential place to start preparing for your career, and it
can even help you start earning college credits towards it. The classes you take
here at CHS and how well you do in them will speak for themselves as to what
type of person you want to become in life.
Chaffey can help those who would like to learn about a career before getting
into college. CHS has a journalism class for all you future reporters. The CHS
Hotel Management Academy is a must if you want to earn big bucks as a front desk
clerk or a manager in the fastest growing industry in the area.
Chaffey also has many clubs, sports, and activities that are fun and can help
you get into college. The French Club, for example, can be a fantastique
experience learning about a foreign culture. ASB would be great for those of you
who would like our school to be a better place. Who says athletes are the only
ones who have fun? Chaffey also has class competitions that you and your pals
can really enjoy. Talk to your counselor for more information on school clubs
and other helpful classes.

So you see, high school prepares you for your future, but who
says you can't have fun, expand your social life, and enrich your mind all at
the same time? Hey, there are four years 'til the real world smacks you in the
face with responsibility. So take advantage of all that high school has to offer
you |
