With balloons decorating the gym and music bumping against all
four walls, everyone had a great time on August 31 at the Tiger Cub orientation,
for which members had prepared since the 26th. The orientation was a success
because of the 800 students who attended.

From the moment the freshmen set foot on the gym floor, they were cheered by leaders and parents as
well. Once seated, everyone got pretty relaxed thanks to the nice shoulder
rubs they received from the people sitting next to them in the bleachers.
They were also entertained by Chaffey’s Pep Squad. Once all the introductions
and performances were given, the fun Assistant Principal Mrs.
Orozco and Mr. Santia, a Social Studies teacher, had in
store began.
The opening event was the balloon hugging game. For this event, five guys and
girls were selected. The guy’s mission was to hug Nancy Hernandez
(00), ASB Vice President, and pop the balloon held between them.
The five gals needed to do the same, but instead hugged ASB President
Steven Gomez (00).This led to a high-five get-to-know-ya-better
activity and ended with the games leaders had planned for their ten cubs,
who were introduced to each other once they arrived at their assigned classroom.

After the individual introductions and games were played, leaders took their
cubs on a campus tour of their new den. That way no one could use the tired
excuse, “I couldn’t find my class” the first week of school.
“The orientation helped me because my Tiger leaders showed me where all my classes
were. This helped me not get lost on the first day of school,” shared
David Diaz (03).
Now that the program has kicked off, it has special events taking place in
the near future. One such event was the “Welcome Back to School” dance
held in Chaffey’s cafeteria on October 8 from 9-11 p.m. The fee was only
$3.00, and leaders who brought a cub got in free. If you want to become
involved either as a cub or leader, see Mrs. Orozco. |
