Girls’ Tennis Back into the Swing of Things
By Jennifer Ruiz, Staff Writer

After a less than stellar season, the Chaffey High girls’ tennis team is ready to get back out on the courts and try it again.

The team lost many seniors last year. However, the new seniors are ready to take over the reigns as leaders of the team. The team also gained a lot of new players, most of which are freshmen. Volleyball Spikes the Competition

By Freddy Hernandez, Staff Writer

Ata Sitaniei (01) gets ready to bump the ball back to the opposing player during practice.

Chaffey has countless clubs and teams, but perhaps the most spirited is volleyball. Taking pictures and providing interviews helps you understand just how badly the team wants to win. Coach Gildernew is confident the team will do well, saying that there is excellent talent on the team, and this year the team is hoping to finish in at least third place.

Team captain Cathy Barnes (01) is also very spirited. With seven other varsity players beside her, Cathy responded to a question regarding volleyball’s success this year by saying, “Yes, everyone  here is

experienced and wants to win!” She was also asked about the merits of the game and replied, “I love being in the games, also the intensity, and it’s very exciting. I also love the competition.”

This season volleyball will have twenty games, including sixteen league matches. Coach Gildernew thinks that this year the team will place somewhere near third, but he hopes that next year the team will improve by coming in first! “We know we’re not as strong athletically as Alta Loma or some of the other schools. We are a competitive team though,” affirms the coach.

Just watching the girls practice, you know that the team is hard working and that they could give some serious competition to other schools. We’ll just have to wait and see.
