| Hail to Queen Nancy
By Adelita Romero, Editor & Krystal Reyes, Staff Writer
As Chaffey’s royalty cruised around Graber Field at half time in their luxurious
automobiles, the crowd grew wild. The crowning was seconds away. Somehow
the princesses managed to gracefully strut down the red carpet where they
would await the student body’s final decision. Flushed with excitement
and tears, each princess waited in anticipation for the announcement of
who would be this year’s Homecoming Queen. |

Senior
Ally
Cardell flaunted the Queen crown over each of the princesses, who held
their breath and prayed silently. Finally, the teasing ceased, and the
coveted crown was gently placed on Nancy Hernandez.
Weeks
prior, when Nancy Hernandez first found out she had made court, her response
was as expected. “I was very happy and shocked.” Her reason, however, was
sentimental, not selfish. “I was so excited and looking forward to my dad
walking with me at the Homecoming game.” |

The hard work of campaigning was eased by
her pals. “My really good friends helped out a lot. They helped me make
posters, tags—everything. I thank them so much.”
Nancy
was able to brush off the stress of campaigning. “So far the experience
has been wonderfully memorable.”
Nancy
also feels that homecoming hasn’t changed her. “I feel this has affected
me in a positive way,” she expresses. “Making court was nothing to die
for, but I really wanted to make my parents proud.” |

But
they certainly had plenty to be proud of already. Nancy is currently ASB
and Salsa Vice President and MECHA President. She also is in C.S.F., on
Varsity Cheerleading, is Captain or the girls’ track team, and has been
in volleyball for two years.
When
she does have any free time, she likes to “go out with my boyfriend Guad
and my friends, and work at my job at Old Navy.” All can be accomplished
because of her sole inspiration: her parents. “My mom and dad. They are
who make me want to strive to be successful in life. |
