This year, while still being in AP English, advanced dance, serving as Vice President of Student Council, co-captain of Pep Squad, and holding down a job at the mall, Priscilla O’Dell managed to make it to the top five. “I was very shocked, and it made me realize that I do have a lot of true friends,” she said when asked how she felt upon discovering she had made it to the finals.

Motivated by all her friends, Priscilla decided to run for court. She felt it was important because “It’s like a senior girl thing!” Besides that, her true reason for running was simply to have fun.

With the support and assistance of all her friends, she managed to do everything she wanted. When asked about the campaign, she said it was “hard work and time consuming, but it was all worth it.” She admits that she had to time herself and work on the campaign after her homework was completed, while watching television, during her free time, and especially her weekends.

After high school, Priscilla wants to go straight to a 4-year university, possibly UCR. She feels that she has a lot of really good friends and that she’s gained a lot out of high school. In the long run, she is proud to say that “all my friends have influenced me and helped make me who I am today!”

Dija Dowling had just finished running a lap during basketball practice when she was informed that she had made princess “I was hot and sweaty when I was initially told, but it was still a really neat feeling.”

The task of campaigning and skit rehearsing made some fun memories for Dija. “I had a great time,” she admits. “My friends helped so much; they were awesome.”

Surprisingly, Dija never planned on running at all. “Running was a last minute decision that turned out to be a lot of fun.”

Jumping into a decision like running for homecoming is something most people wouldn’t do, but Dija has always done things differently and in her own unique style. In junior high, she defied the stereotypes and played football and wrestling. From flowers and handkerchiefs in her hair to her distinct personality, Dija is a one of a kind and would rather do things her way.

But acting is probably a better career move. Dija is currently involved in a dinner theater production of Joey and Maria’s Italian Wedding .And she has been chosen to portray Miepin CHS’ production of the Diary of Anne Frank.

But of course winning wasn’t important. “It is just a fun thing for a person to be involved in.”
