Interact Throws a Welcome Party
By Christy Roberts, Feature Editor

Recently, a sparsely known club on campus did something only characteristic of organizations like ASB. In September, Interact hosted a Welcome Back Fair for Chaffey students that took place in front of the MS building in South quad. This fair was profoundly different in another area; the club’s objective was not to make money. In actuality, the club lost over two hundred dollars producing the fair. Instead the club’s goal was to sponsor an event that would attract new members and spread the word about the great things Interact does.

Vanessa Moreno (00), this year’s president, works incredibly hard to keep the club in motion. When asked how she feltabout the club’s fair,  Vanessa stated, “It was a lot of fun and a great opportunity for the school to see us doing what we love—helping the community.” The club’s advisor, Mrs. Stewart, commented, “Having the dunk tank with various teachers and proctors willing to get soaked showed students how much fun the club is, and the fair was a great opportunity for the club members to bond.”

The Chaffey Interact Club is sponsored by the Ontario Rotary Club, a service club that is best known for eradicating Polio throughout the world. The Interact club was resurrected last year with Mrs. Stewart as the advisor. Along with numerous community service projects, the club founded The Loud Foundation last year, which helps terminally ill people in need of money for treatment.

This year, the club’s first Winter project includes filling shoe boxes full of toys and supplies and sending them to a ranch in Mexico for destitute children. You can join Interact by simply attending meetings every Wednesday in Mrs. Stewart’s room in the MS building. The club would be happy to have you!

French Club Visits Dralion
By Jennifer Ruiz, Assistant Editor

The looming fog set the stage on Saturday, October 23, when the French Club had the opportunity to explore French culture with a visit to Cirque Du Soleil, a French-Canadian circus that travels worldwide.
Formed in Quebec, Canada in 1984, “Soleil” is described by its creators as “a dramatic mix of circus acts and street entertainment.” It does not rely on animals in any of its acts. There are six different Cirque Du Soleil shows. The French Club went to Dralion, the newest of the Cirque Du Soleil shows.

The show performs in Santa Monica at the Santa Monica Pier. Thirteen members of the club attended Monsieur Haine and Madame Antoniak.

Dralion is described best by Mary Duarte (00): “The entire show was compelling; every act was exciting and kept me on the edge of my seat!”

The theme of  Dralion combines the themes of the ancient Chinese circus and the new age format of Cirque Du Soleil. The show emphasizes the power of life and the four natural elements.
The music is captivating, alternating from traditional circus music to electro-symphonic harmonies in a matter of seconds. All the singing throughout the show is performed live by a band and three opera singers.

Dralion features 54 artists from ten different countries. Some of the performers are as young as five years old. The most impressive, however, were the 35 Chinese acrobats.

The show includes ballet on lights, hoops, juggling, a double trapeze, and jump roping. Clowns appear throughout the show, but not in the same way as in a traditional circus. The clowns interact with random audience members before the start of each show.
If you have an opportunity to catch the show, the French Club definitely recommends it. Tres magnifique!
