Spirit Rally Causes Confusion
By Lailah Moridzadeh, News Editor & Brenda Barrios, Graphic Editor
On October 1, the first class competition
rally took place, causing much confusion among students.
Sophomores were cheering victory when, in
fact, the juniors won.
The misunderstanding arose when the
sophomores won the color contest, which granted them fifty points, but that
wasn’t enough to earn them the title of winning class.

Juniors won two events, giving them a total
of 200 points and leaving the mighty 2002 with 150 points in total.
Seniors won every event with a total of 350
points. The new class of 2003 received 0 points.
Freshmen were irate at having to compete against the big kids
on campus in the first match, but that’s the way these competitions work. For
the past seven years, it has been the same--freshmen against seniors for the
initial rally. Now that the freshmen have competed against the toughest class, it’s easy
going from here on out.

Sorry sophomores.... It was the juniors who took
the win at the spirit rally.

Sometime in the
next couple of months, Patti Gulino, the activities coordinator, is planning to have another rally in which all the
classes will be competing against each other. They’ll engage in pie-eating
contests, and other group activities where all grades can compete
simultaneously.
To keep track of the
winning classes, the plan is to display a poster in the student store with
little cars lined up, for example, representing the four classes and their
status in the competition.
Contrary to
popular belief, there’s no guarantee that seniors will win, despite their
attempts to cheat. Good luck to everyone, and may the best class win!

Princesses Get Their Groove On

Priscilla O'Deal danced so adorably, Elmo couldn't keep his hands
off her.

On
Friday, October 29, students witnessed Chaffey’s last Homecoming rally
of the century.
Before these skits were performed, the five princesses were introduced and escorted
down the gym floor by a family member or close friend.
The themes chosen this year were of the past five decades. Priscilla O’
Dell prepared a skit from the 50’s, Carriann Love was
in charge of the 60’s, Dija Dowling captivated the 70’s, Shantel
Rodriguez swept away the 80’s, and Nancy Hernanez danced away
the 90’s.
There was a wide range of music performed, everything from Aretha Franklin’s
“Respect” to Juvenille’s “Back That Thang Up.”
For many students who don’t know the princesses personally, these performances
were the deciding factor in the race for queen, the final voting for which
was held November 2nd and 4th.
