Coach Brown  knows, though, they tried their best. “I think they played well. We had 22 play drives, which is rare in football.”  Coach Brown actually played in the first Cat Bowl back in 1987.“Because of that, it does mean more to me than to some.” The price of admission was well worth this time-honored tradition of excellence and pride displayed upon the soft green field that evening.

That may be a bit of an exaggeration, but last year the team won three out of sixteen games. Don’t scoff. That is actually a considerable feat since it was golf’s first season  ever in the history of Chaffey sports.

What kind of players does the golf team need? Coach Stark What kind of players does the golf team need? Coach Stark explains, “A good golfer is someone who has a sound knowledge of the game, a good grip, and a nice stance. He or she also has to know what golf is.”

Practices usually take place at The Empire Lakes Golf Club in Rancho Cucamonga. The sessions last an hour and a half to two hours.

The season hasn’t officially started yet, but it is expected to begin on February 15th and last through the first week of May. There are usually two to three matchesa week and twenty matches a year against other schools with golf programs, like Los Altos High. But the school that Coach Stark and Coach Rushreally consider a rival is Alta Loma.

Why would you want to play golf? When asked that question, a member of the team, Mynor Pinillos (02)explains, “I joined the golf team because I heard it was fun. I heard golf was a good learning experience.”

Frank Aguire (02)says the reason he joined the team is because “I needed to get involved with something after school, and golf was the best thing for me.”

Take it from these players; if you want something fun and educational to do after school; an activity that improves your concentration and gets you out of the house, Coaches Stark and Rush would love to see you golfing for Chaffey.
