FOOD FAIR #2 FEEDS THE HUNGRY
By Corinna Compian & Krystal Reyes, Staff Writers

Once again the aroma of pizza, baked goods, and juicy hamburgers caused drooling mouths, growling stomachs, and willing hands to dive into pockets in search of money.

What else could it be but another fabulous food fair? On Friday, December 10, students scattered in search of the yummiest foods the clubs were selling. Kiwins sold pizza, earning approximately $300. There was no doubt that the pizza and hamburgers would sell out quickly, especially with football players purchasing one entire pizza per person.

"The fair was good. They had a wide variety of delicious food," claimed Tassja Penrose (02).

Other clubs such as VICA, Teen Parent, Choir, Astronomy and the Middle Eastern Club sold their various treats for a modest profit.

While South Quad was full of hungry buyers of snacks such as candy apples, donuts and sodas, Phillip Strom (00) noticed, Not only did they have good homemade Mexican food, but good fast food too.

There was one advantage for the students who didn’t buy food from the fair booths: the student store, snack bars, and cafeteria were practically empty.

Michelle Jacques (01) rejoiced that the second quarter food fair had rolled by again. I like it because we get to try something new other than eating the cafeteria food everyday.

Make sure to start saving your allowance now for the third quarter food fair and to get into line quickly so you can grub all you want of what you want. There’s nothing worse than being the last one to buy food at second lunch and having nothing left to choose from than dry nachos and a broken cookie.

Jared Tannen (00) and Jonathan Kleine (00) have fun loading cans onto a cart for the canned food drive.

Chaffey's Cancan Drive
By Jessica Moreno, Staff Writer

Remember all those cans you brought to school in December for the Annual Canned Food Drive sponsored by the Kiwins Club? Compared to last year's total, this year the can count was almost doubled at an unbelievable 7,116. Each third period class varied in its participation. Some did not collect cans at all while others had food stacked on the floor, under tables, in boxes, and anywhere else possible.

Competition was fierce this year. Last year's winning class was Mrs. Guilfoyle's third period. Although many thought her class would win once again, this time they came in third. Who knocked her out of the position as supreme can champion? Ms. Cutnery's third period Sign Language class amassed over 1,600 cans alone. Ms. Beck's third period class took second place.

The first place class earned a pizza party, the second place class earned Snickers Bars, and everyone helped the Salvation Army feed the needy during the holiday season.

Collecting cans was only one part of the Canned Food Drive. About thirty students went to classrooms with carts and transported all 7,116 cans to the truck. Debbie Castillo (00) vividly recalled, "The cart was heavy, and the job was dirty, but we had a lot of fun too."

Kiwins board member Lydia Morales (00) thanked everyone saying, "We were really proud to have collected that many cans for the needy people." Between December 1-15, students and staff alike united under one cause and did their part in making the holidays a bit brighter for those less fortunate.
