Fall Sports Gone With The Wind
By Freddy Hernandez, Sports Editor &

Another year, another time to say goodbye to fall sports. And it might not seem like a big deal to freshmen, sophomores, and juniors, but they have to realize that it was the last time that the class of 2000 would ever participate in Chaffey's big football game, a competitive volleyball match, or even the critical tennis meet. |
|
For seniors, fall season is really over. It's the returning players who are already anticipating their performance in next year's season of recreational sports.
So, how memorable was the '99 season? Chaffey football player Scott Alejo (01) says, "My favorite moment was when I got to catch the rock." He means the football, of course. Another Chaffey football star,
Vince Jimenez (02) states, "If we need to improve on anything, it's stepping up and taking leadership!"
Another fall sport that ended besides football is volleyball.

How did Chaffey perform compared to other schools this year? Well, Cathy Barnes (01) says, "The team worked hard, but according to our record, not hard enough. We improved a lot from last year, but hopefully next year we will be a better team."
Angelica Licea (01) is excited and willing to give 100% next year. "This year we worked hard and a lot better than last, but next season we will give our all and try to improve." |
Unfortunately, the tennis team's season ended on a losing streak; there were, however, some shining stars. Like
Marcela Rodriguez, a freshman, who surprised everyone by playing varsity for most of the season. She and
Danica De La Cruz (03) played varsity alongside the more experienced upperclassmen. Although unsuccessful in C.I.F finals, players like these prove that next year these tennis tigers are ready for the challenges that are ahead of them.

This year was a difficult one for cross country as well, but there were some outstanding individual performances.
"Alissa did really well this year, and that made the rest of the team feel good," reflects
Nidia Perez (00).
"Most people don't want to go out for cross country because [they think] it's too hard," admits
Alissa Chow. "But I like it because it builds up my strength and stamina. The team is kind of small, but another good thing about cross country is it prepares me for next soccer season."

Angie Cannady (01) keeps her eye
on the ball, a critical rule of the game.

To all the athletes who helped make fall season what is was, Chaffey thanks you for your dedication and tremendous effort. |
