Swishing to Success

Swishing to Success

By Carriann Love, Staff Writer

5-4-3-2-SCORE!

Of course this is the dream of every basketball player throughout their career. Chaffey’s players are no exception. The Lady Tigers push themselves during at least 2 hours of practice each and every day except Sundays. These women push themselves to the limit, all in the name of success.

In years past, the team has reached goals that at times seemed unattainable. Just last season, they made it to C.I.F. And with a record of 4-2 thus far this year, it seems likely that the team will be at C.I.F. once again.

The players are more than confident in their game.

Honestly, I expect to do better than last year, challenges Ralonna Bell (00).

Even with a few key players having graduated last year, the team is determined to reach great heights this season. Many are entirely committed to the game. They continue to practice at home even after school practice. Every moment of free time is spent perfecting their craft.

When asked why she joined basketball and with such dedication, Bettye Jenkins (00) simply stated, Because I love the sport and want to become a professional basketball player.

With all their hard work already paying off this early in the season, this team is destined to do well. This just goes to show that there are 3 key elements to a great, successful team: hard work, dedication, and teamwork. So follow your dreams girls, and good luck this season.

Boys Basketball Bounces into the New Season
By Freddy Hernandez, Sports Editor

They're athletic, ready, and determined to win. No, they're not the Lakers, they are our very own Chaffey Tigers. And they are ready to bounce right through the season into the playoffs.

Coach Gilbert explains, "Our biggest goal is to do well during the season and get into the playoffs." When asked how the team would reach the standards he has set for them, Gilbert confidently stated, "The team will reach their goals. I'm counting on senior leadership. The whole team has heart, character, and the determination to reach their goals. We just need to improve defensively and limit our turnovers."

Senior Jeremy Santos advises, "We need to play as a team, with dedication, and just be willing to push ourselves that extra mile." Another senior, Nathan Velez, says the best feature of this team is that we all respect each other."

Reflecting the team's sense of humor, Cheddell Hunt (01) jokes, "The only thing the team needs to do to win is give me the ball and get out the way." Watching the team play as one demonstrates their true talent and coordination.

Gabriel Kutkowski (00) considers Ontario our biggest rival of all the other schools with basketball programs for two reasons: because of the short distance between the two schools and the fact that Ontario was the undefeated league champion last year. Will Chaffey Tigers be thrown out of the #1 spot by the Jaguars? Stay tuned and see.
