W.W.F. Pinned with Bad Rap
By Freddy Hernandez, Sports Editor

It's the most popular thing on television. Kids all over the world stay up past their bedtimes to watch it. The Rock, Stone Cold Steve Austin, and Y2J. They are just a few of the superstars of the World Wrestling Federation. But do the parents of these kids know what their children are watching from 9:00 to 11:00 p.m.?

Many people say wrestling is too graphic. People say the type of language is irresponsible and the sexual content immoral. Are the wrestlers really teaching kids bad traits by saying phrases like "suck it"?

Maybe it's not the wrestlers at all. Perhaps it's the parents' fault who allow their kids to stay up past their bedtime to watch the show every Monday night. It's not the wrestlers' jobs to raise all 30 million kids that look up to them. That's why it's called "prime time television". There are many points of view on this matter but which is correct?

Coca-Cola, one of the most successful and wealthiest companies ever, has decided to drop their advertising with W.W.F. events entirely, claiming the shows are too vulgar and explicit.

In this editor's opinion, if these kids aren't exposed to such influences on television, they can and will be affected by them in dealing with people and life. My suggestion to these so-called "worried parents" who claim that the W.W.F. should be taken off the air is why don't you restrict what shows your children are viewing?

Is it really such a big deal if your kids are walking around calling each other "jabronies" (a nonsense word)? If these kids want to find out what the newest, most popular slang is, they will. There is no way to really prevent it, except by isolating your child in his room his entire life, which would lead to a host of entirely different psychological problems. That's the bottom line because Freddy said so, if you smell what I'm cooking.
