New Schools Named
By Jennifer Ruiz, Assistant Editor

Many people within the community have been wondering what the names of the two new schools being built in the Chaffey District will be. Although actual ground breaking for the schools, which are located in Rancho Cucamonga and South Ontario, has not yet begun, the CJUHSD school board thought naming the schools early would help generate a little excitement.

By now you are probably dying to know the names. Well, just keep reading. There's just a
little information you may want to know before the names are revealed.

The school board wanted the names, which were finalized on January 18, to reflect their surroundings. For example, the names suggested by community members for the Rancho Cucamonga school included Citrus High and Deer Creek High. Although there is nothing wrong with those names, the board and community decided that...drum roll please...Los Osos (the Bears) High School would be the best name for the school in Rancho, and Colony High School would be the most fitting name for the school in South Ontario.

Construction of the schools will begin in March, and will take approximately two years to complete. At least the younger siblings of current students will be able to experience the thrill of playing against or of attending a new school in 2002.

Inland Empire Dance Invitational
By Carriann Love, Staff Writer &
Jennifer Ruiz, Assistant Editor

From the latest in modern dance from Etiwanda to straight-from-the-street hip-hop from Eisenhower, the annual Dance Invitational held on January 14 in Gardiner Spring Auditorium was a groovin' show. The event was hosted by Alta Loma's dance team and featured 10 area high schools.

The purpose of this event was for each school to demonstrate their hard work and talent. The show was as diverse as it could be. The performances truly showed how much work goes into each show. Every dance featured different costumes from mesh unitards for "Rock Is Dead" to metallic tech vests for "Pushin' 2000."

Chaffey's dancers were very proud to hold the event held on their campus. "It was a chance to see what the other schools had, and it was a privilege to have it on our stage," said Monica Ribera (00). Chaffey's advanced dance performed two dances to "Silly" and "Pushin' 2000."

The decision to hold the event in Gardner Spring Auditorium was a successful one. The one-night-only show completely sold out. For each patron, there was a different highlight, but most would agree Eisenhower stole the stage. "The highlight of the evening was when Eisenhower outperformed the other schools with their great dance techniques," said Kristen McGroarty (00).

Eisenhower may have had a lot of enthusiasm behind their dances, but Chaffey got a lot of support from their peers. Monica Ribera said it best: "[The performance] should never leave GWS."
