How to Attract the Opposite Sex
By Lailah Moridzadeh, News Editor & Brenda Barrios, Graphics Editor

To all girls and guys out there, Valentine's Day is here, which means we all need that special someone to spend it with. Read this, and finding a last-minute date will be easy!

Girls: Listen up! Attracting a guy is as easy as feeding meat to a starved cheetah! Guys can be putty in your hands. Batting your eyes will make a guy practically crawl on the floor to you, begging for more. Technique is needed, however; use a slight smile, two quick blinks, with head tilted, then a slow turn, and walk away elegantly. Sounds difficult? Try it at home, and see if your dog follows. If it does, no one will be able to resist you.

GIRLS, CAUTION: Do not wear so much make-up that you can scrape off an inch of it under your nails. A guy doesn't want to kiss a compact; he wants to kiss your face. Don't miss the outline of your upper lip either when you apply lipliner. Like your mama taught you to color, stay in the lines! And why shave off your eyebrows just to re-paint them? Keep your eyebrows intact from the beginning. When brushing your hair, don't leave a hairball behind in your guy friend's car. Always keep your bra hidden because nobody wants to see your dirty bra.

It takes advanced coordination to do the more sophisticated tricks like the Fifty-fifty Grind, Blunt Grind, Three-Sixty Flip, Nose Stall, Big Spin, or Shove It. Again, if you can do the trick already, you may be watching others to see if you can offer some help. No one is paid to do this; there are no advisors or coaches, and there are no crowds cheering you on. You are there for the love of the sport and the personal challenge. What sportsman could argue that this is not the core of true sportsmanship?

Despite this, many people confuse skaters with taggers, two totally diverse groups of kids. Skaters have a passion in life, SKATING! They see taggers as losers who have nothing else to make their mark in life but the pen in their hand. In fact, skaters will stop any taggers they see and let them know that this is their territory, the skaters', and not to be marked by taggers. Skaters protect their skating environment; they don't deface it.

What confuses me is how adults, even some teachers and administrators, could see these athletes as outlaws, outcasts, or vandals and try to push them off the campus and onto the street. The antagonism against them is so strong that I cannot even sign my name to this article for fear that I will be singled out for punishment for asking these questions and showing support for this great American sport.

If I could change just one idea about skating on our campus, it would be to have each non-skater look at this sport with a fresh view and see the skaters as true athletes who embody the best ideals of sportsmanship and skill in the face of great adversity. The next time you cross campus after hours, stop a moment and just watch. You will see some of the finest athletes and sportsmen (and women) Chaffey has. They may seem a little nervous to have the attention, since they are so used to getting busted, but just smile and maybe give a nod if they make their trick. Perhaps they will feel a little more at ease if it happened more often.
