ERNIE PAYNE FIELD DEDICATION
With the help and cooperation of the City of Ontario,
Gary Ovitt, (CHS teacher and City of Ontario Councilman), Wayne Redfearn
(former Varsity Baseball Coach and current teacher) and Chaffey High School
Maintenance and Grounds Crews, the infield was refurbished in 1996.
A former baseball player Jerry Dubois, among other interested alumni
and staff, researched and found that the field had not been dedicated.
Before a large group at a Kiwanis luncheon, Mr. and Mrs. Payne were
honored and Mr. Payne was presented with baseball articles, a plaque and
a sign, which proclaims the field be officially named ERNIE PAYNE FIELD.
On March 8, 1997, the ERNIE PAYNE FIELD was formally dedicated before
alumni baseball players and alumni members. Documentation prepared by Adele Redfearn
