New Teachers on Campus
By Patrick Jackson, Cartoonist

All you tigers out there, here’s some important news for you. There are several fresh faces out there; no it’s not all those little freshman running around. This year we have 23 new additions to Chaffey’s teaching staff. So go easy on them this year, okay?

English teachers, Ms. Hall and Ms. Ybanez, have already become buddies in their first few trying weeks of school.

These teachers are from all over the country. Mr. Glavin, a senior English teacher, drove in his VW Bug approximately 2000 miles while his friend drove the Budget moving truck. “I was going to tow my Bug, but the trailer hitch broke before we left Iowa City! Better there than in the mountains of Colorado!” he explains.

Ms. Steffan enjoys her classes and loves
teaching various art styles and techniques.

Several of our new teachers don’t even have their own classroom. Wandering from room to room, one floor to another, during passing period, they must use other teachers’ classrooms. With a full schedule and class sets of textbooks, this is a difficult thing to do! The small second-floor office in south hall has four teachers, their desks, supplies, and a cabinet crammed into it.

From riding dirt bike motorcross to bungie jumping to gardening, these teachers are super stars. After attending schools such as UCLA, Cal Poly, Pomona, the University of Iowa, and Long Beach State, they were motivated to become teachers by such factors as college professors, crummy high school experiences, the desire to serve as a role model for teens, even just for a change of career.

Mr. Galvin gives a thumbs up to English.

These soldiers are falling into the normal, everyday Chaffey High School routine and loving it. “The staff and students are the greatest ever!” explains Mr. Maust, a freshmen English teacher, when asked his opinion of Chaffey and its students and staff.

Although some are fresh out of college, they know just what to do to get students involved. These teachers are working hard and are doing well—a proud addition to Chaffey’s staff of teachers.

So far there have been no complaints, only excited smiles and exhausted, satisfied sighs. With high hopes for the future, Chaffey adopts a few good teachers.
