The field is used for many school events and extra curricular activities,
such as soccer, baseball and archery.

The story goes:
When the field was being put in during the 60's, someone asked our
then Grounds Foreman, Leo Petsuch, "What is the field going to be called?"
Leo's reply was, "Let's call it Ernie Payne Field" (after the then current
Principal of Chaffey High School). The name stuck; however, the field
had never been officially dedicated.
