There are several accounts of the history of Chaffey High School and most of them are about the same.  A thumbnail sketch of the Orange and the Black is as follows:

In 1881, the Chaffey brothers, George and William, emigrated from Ontario, Canada.  They purchased over 6,000 acres in the valley known as the Ontario Colony Lands.  There was only one community is those early days--Ontario--named after the area in Canada from which these pioneers had come.  Hence, the name Ontario.  As you look around the area of Chaffey High School let your mind wander back to the late 1800's and early 1900's.  There were no cars, yet there were horses and mule-drawn trolleys.  There was no smog, just horse manure.  There were no freeways, just dusty old roads.  No stop signs, no traffic signals, no right of ways.  As you look to the North, you will see snow covered majestic mountains and vineyards up to the foothills.  As you look to the South, you will see the vast valley, and looking to the East, you will again see mountains rising in the vista, and to the West, you will see orange and lemon groves as far as the eye can see.

The two hundred-foot wide thoroughfare called Euclid Avenue goes from downtown Ontario up to 24th Street in San Antonio Heights north of Upland.  Pepper trees and grass line it and the median even has a mule-drawn trolley that you can ride each way for less than a nickel.  It was designed exactly like the main street that the Chaffey Brothers came from in Ontario, Canada.  Later, one of the highlights of the social year in Ontario, will be the All States Picnic which is held up and down the length of Euclid Avenue. Life is simple and much slower paced.  The boundaries for Chaffey (i.e. Ontario) High School go from Pomona on the West to San Bernardino on the East, to Mt. Baldy on the North and to Chino on the South.
