About the Monument

The Alta Loma Honor Roll is a monument dedicated to the memory of the men and women of our community who served in America's armed forces during World War II as well as the Korean and Vietnam Wars.

The Honor Roll is located in front of, and between, the Fire Operations building and Fire Station 171, at 6627 Amethyst Avenue, in Alta Loma.

The Honor Roll was first erected in 1942 and has been updated and restored over the years. Originally the Honor Roll contained the names of those who served in World War II. The names of Korean War veterans were added in 1951. In 1976 the monument was restored by Wayne Bowser as an Eagle Scout project. In 1981 the City of Rancho Cucamonga designated the Honor Roll as an Historic Landmark.

Todd Prather restored the monument again as an Eagle Scout project. Over the years many different service groups have volunteered time and talent to maintain the Honor Roll.

The Honor Roll was re-dedicated on April 4, 1992. 

The Honor Roll is a wooden structure housing sheets of paper upon which the names of the honored veterans are written in ink. Natural weathering has taken its toll on the memorial.

The Rancho Cucamonga Firefighters Association would like to undertake a project to once again restore the Honor Roll. Plans for the restoration include inscribing the veterans' names on bronze plaques, rebuilding and reinforcing the wooden structure, and adding park benches, a brick pathway, a flagpole and a rose garden around the structure.

In order to perform the restoration the firefighters need your help.

There are 168 names listed on the Honor Roll that need sponsors. You can sponsor a name and help to restore the memorial with your tax-deductible contribution of $70. As a special thank you the name you have sponsored, as well as your name, will be inscribed in a brick and placed in the new pathway.

If you would like to sponsor a name, please enclose a donation of $70. If you would like to donate some other amount towards the restoration project, please feel free to do so. All the money donated will go directly to the restoration of this significant community monument.

All checks should be made payable to the Rancho Cucamonga Firefighters Association.

All donations, regardless of size, are appreciated and are tax-deductible.

All donors will be invited to a special ceremony at the Honor Roll on Veterans Day.
