Alfalfa, the Great Hay Crop.
This land is especially adapted to alfalfa and hundreds of
acres are producing heavy hay crops.
The orange growers to the north use most of it and make a fine home
market. Deciduous fruits, vegetables,
grain and eucalyptus do well, also, and are raised extensively. Even without irrigation fine crops are
raised, as the sandy soil overlaying the clay beneath acts as a great blanket
holding the moisture of winter rains.

Land values have doubled in this section within two
years. One man recently sold a
seventy-five acre alfalfa ranch for $300 per acre which he bought as raw land
eighteen months before for $100 per acre.
