Ontario Churches
Ontario churches are nineteen in number, and every one a
very hive of industry, humming and gathering "sweetness and light"
for the appreciative community. In the
first place, these churches of varied names, and confessions are distributed
over the entire city, and also represent the greatest variety of Christian
faith, so that every one, no matter what his tastes or belief may find one to
suit him.
Here too, each may find the forms of worship that will meet
his peculiar want. The plain, and the
scholarly, the high and the low, the dignified and the democratic, the
emotional and the intellectual, may here find the very form of worship that
will best meet his wants and minister to his needs.
But busy as these churches are and varied as are the forms of
worship, they are yet united in all good enterprises and work, and their
influence is diffused like an atmosphere throughout the city.
Ontario is pre-eminently a Christian city
and no where in California is there a higher moral tone or ideal of religious
and civic life than here.
These churches are well equipped and on any Sabbath morning
the streets present the aspect of a happy people, in groups of well dressed and
rosy faced children, or more serious elderly people, wending their ways to the
churches and Sunday schools of their choice.
These are the expression of order, peace and good-will which find their
native home, and characterize this fair city on "the avenue."
Ontario is strictly a prohibition city.
Every deed issued for real estate here
carries with it a clause which prohibits the use of the land for the sale of
intoxicating liquor. There never has
been and never can be saloons in Ontario.
