| How many of you have heard or seen the following?
* This scholarship is guaranteed or your money back
* You can’t get this information anywhere else
* May I have your credit card or bank account number to hold this scholarship?
* Send $75 and we’ll do all the work
* Everyone is eligible!
Does it sound strange to you? Well, it should! Scammers have been targeting students like you who are trying to find |
ways of making college inexpensive.
We would hate to see our students be taken advantage of! So we have put together some clues you should look out for when searching for a scholarship.
Know Your Scams
If there’s a fee, it’s a scam! The only thing it should cost is time.
If they state ‘ money back guarantee’ , there are probably too many strings attached making that refund almost impossible.
The biggest tip off is the request of a bank account number. The only reason they would need that is to wipe you clean of your hard earned money. An account |
number is never necessary to hold or reserve a scholarship.
What’s Legit?
Legit scholarship providers only provide information when requested by you They will never guarantee a scholarship or do all the work for you.
But most importantly, it is FREE!!
If you feel that you have been a victim of this fraud please call The National Fraud Information Center (NFIC) at 1-800-876-7060.
They’ll make sure your complaint gets to the right people!
